Automotive hood FSI simulation pipeline
- Built coupled OpenFOAM FSI pipeline to model stamping defects across 16,000+ hood geometry variants for Ford
- Custom pimpleFoam and solidDisplacementFoam solvers run in parallel with preCICE handling projection mapping and data transfer
- Automated STL-to-displacement-field workflow on HPC via SLURM, cutting total CPU runtime significantly
- Wrote Python scripts to process simulation outputs into ML training data
- Co-authored paper accepted to NeurIPS 2025
MASA thrust transfer structure
- Redesigned TTS to accommodate 15% higher thrust while achieving 3% weight reduction
- Developed analytical solutions for load paths, bearing stress, shear, and buckling failure modes from first principles
- Verified hand calculations against ANSYS Mechanical FEA and iterated on geometry at stress concentrations
- Modeled in Siemens NX with version control through Teamcenter, GD&T per ASME Y14.5
- Machined parts to tolerances on mill and lathe
Adaptive camber wing
- Simulations and wind tunnel testing lead for a senior design-build-test course at Michigan
- Built 3D wing model, reduced to 2D for ANSYS Fluent CFD with chord-length-based mesh refinement
- Ran nine configurations across three camber modes and three angles of attack for Cl, Cd, and flow separation
- Wind tunnel testing validated the same matrix — achieved 4-8% L/D improvement over conventional flaps
- Presented findings to course faculty and industry reviewers
Carbon fiber surface treatment study
- Investigated chemical surface treatments to improve interfacial bonding between carbon fiber and aramid additives
- Performed composite layups and multiple industry-standard structural evaluation tests
- Used SEM imaging to characterize chemical and physical bonding at the micro scale
- Correlated surface morphology observations with measured mechanical performance
In-house appliance certification test stand
- Designed full in-house certification test capability at Midea America, saving $50K per test cycle
- Designed apparatus in Creo using DFMA principles — low part count, repeatable assembly without engineering support
- Machined metal airflow components and assembled representative prototype stand
- Authored test protocol, statistical sampling study, and SOP for full-time team handoff
Peltier water cooling system
- Designed and modeled a TEC-based water cooling loop for compact electronics packaging
- Built lumped-mass thermal RC network representing cold plate, TEC, and heat sink
- Implemented implicit backward Euler time-stepping solver in MATLAB for numerical stability at large timesteps
- Predicted transient temperatures under variable power loads
